History

CXO Advisor was established in 2002 to provide the African market with a business relevant IT Advisory Service supported by world class research. At that time CXO Advisor was appointed the African Consulting partner of the well-known Global IT research house Data Monitor, Europe’s largest cross industry management research business. Data Monitor was specifically chosen because of their practical and business focused approach to research.
Data Monitor subsequently also acquired Ovum, the leading research company in the Telecom’s industry. As a result of these acquisitions (Data Monitor acquired the Butler Group as well!), Data Monitor consolidated all it’s Information
Technology products and services under the Ovum brand to form the world’s leading ICT Research Analyst organisation. (See CXO Advisor Partners)
Today CXO Advisor is not only Ovum’s exclusive consulting and advisory partner in Africa, supporting both Ovum’s subscribers and other major companies in making informed and business driven decisions, but we also contribute South African and African research and thought leadership on ICT Management to Ovum.

IT Management Practice Services
CXO Advisor has invested in building a substantial body of knowledge and best practice in “Managing IT like a business” and CXO Advisor’s own IT management framework; the 3Role Model™. Applying this investment and our extensive management experience, CXO Advisor has developed a number of services aimed at improving the value, quality and alignment of our clients’ investment in IT, and in the value that IT provides their business. We have assisted in transforming and maturing client IT divisions to being more business service focused and more business-like in their management & approach to the contribution that IT makes in the organisation.
Many businesses find themselves hiring technically focused individuals to manage what has become a more business and process focused portfolio. , These companies believe they are forced to hire such people due to a shortage of skills, or as a result of the perception that the IT function requires technical management. The result is, predictably, business frustration with IT, the perception that they are not getting value from IT, and in some cases the lack of quality service either from their internal IT department or from their vendors.
Our commitment in this regard is to provide your business with an implemented, manageable, sustainable IT function that meets the needs of the business and business management.
King 3 and IT Transformation
With the adoption of the King III good governance framework and the incorporation of Information Technology into this framework, it has become imperative that IT change behavior and become more business like in the way they manage themselves and their business IT resources.
The Company’s board is now responsible for ensuring value is derived from IT investment, IT risk is controlled, IT is aligned with the business strategy, and that IT receives good leadership. This means that IT Management needs to radically rethink and change their behavior so that they can measure IT value, prove IT alignment, quality of service, manage risk, and communicate these to the board in a manner which ensures that the board is confident that they have control and can manage IT outcomes.
So if you are concerned about your business’s investments in IT, the contribution of IT to business results, and the value that IT should be providing, talk to CXO Advisor.
